hi, i just got me a tascam us-428 the other day and i'm having difficulty with the mic input thing. i have an audiotechnica 3035 and was trying to input the mic into the tascam. i tried all i can but couldn't get it to work. i'v read a section in the tascam manual about audio input and it says that the tascam us-428 doesn't provide phantom power, so to be able to hook up a mic into it, i'll have to get an external preamp or power supply. is that true? if it is, what kind of power suppy or preamp do i need. also, is there an easier way to get around this to make the mic work.

most condinser mics run on 49v phantom power. most phantom power supplys have enough to get you started.

good luck! ;)

Of course your Sweetwater Sound Sales Engineer can also help you pick out either a preamp or a power supply for that mic. If you're not sure what to get, give them a call and they'll be sure to help you out.

One such item would be:

or any number of preamps in a range of prices...one is sure to be a match for you.

Most of the new stand alone units have phantom power built in.
I have a Korg d1600 and it has four. Before that I used a Roland vs880ex and I was using a Presonus Bluetube Preamp that had a nice warm sound to it. You can get a less exspensive one at any electronic store but I would spend the money on a good one. Sweetwater has very many real good units. Pick up Recording, Home Recording or Mix Magazine as they can help a lot. I wish I knew about them years ago.

Happy Tracking

I have this little beauty and it works nicely to warm up vocals. Also provides 48V Phantom, a nice pad, and a High Pass/Low Cut filter from 80Hz down (12db/Octave, I believe). I'd check it out sometime...

Agreed! Also great for a Bass or Guitar DI with some grit to it when you hit the tubes harder.
