Has anyone had a chance to hear the new Macke HR824's? I really like the originals, and just wanted to get anyone's take on the difference between those and the new models-
Cheers,

How cool
I also liked the originals, with some complaints of course, namely the low end. I am also curious how these suckers sound and translate.

Quick story: I just demo'd some of the original 824s, loved them, and returned to the store in hopes of picking up a new pair for myself. They called Mackie and wouldn't you know it--they stopped making them and the new ones won't be available for 2 months. *sigh*
The Mk2s, as far as I can see, are identical, just the casing is different (it looks plastic, which means they new ones are probably cheaper for Mackie to make and they might now sound as good as the older ones). And everyone seems to be crazy about these Adam A7's...so we'll see.....

Not true, at least not at Sweetwater... We've got the Mk2's in stock right now:

This isn't true, either. They do sound similar to the originals, but there are a handful of enhancements. They aren't plastic, either. With the exception of a small plastic area right around the heat sink vent in the back, they are all metal. The front is aluminum, and the sides are rolled steel, if I'm not mistaken.
They probably are cheaper for Mackie to make, but that's reflected in the price (the current models are $80 cheaper than the original street price of their predecessors). And for what it's worth, I'm also crazy about the A7's. If you ever make it out here to Sweetwater, we have a pair of A7's sitting right next to the new Mackies in our speaker demo room.

On Mackies website I read that "Passive radiator provides tight, articulate bass extension down to 35Hz" and on sweetwater it says "Passive radiator provides tight, articulate bass extension down to 45Hz"....? Typo at Sweetwater...?

I was referring to the original 824s.

Metal? Interesting...wonder how they sound compared to the A7's....care to indulge us as to your experience? (assuming you've A/B'd them...)
