I have an HP ZD8215us Laptop (zd8200) that came with XP MCE

I know this is off topic but I'm wondering if any of you have replaced win XP MCE with XP Home or XP PRO .

If so ,were you able to retain your settings without retaining the problems that come with XP MCE.?????
Thanks
Tom

Well, I did a complete installation of XP-Pro on my HPA1450N, which came with XPMC. I formatted the hard drive, so no settings were retained, it was like completely starting over. That said, the computer runs great now, after downloading all the updates, and killing lots of startup programs.

I don't think that you can go backwards with an OS install without formatting the HD, but I am not 100% sure on that. Either way it is a good idea to just start clean, time consuming as it may be.....

Everyone I know who has done this has typically done a full reinstall, or set the machine up to dual boot MCE and Home or Pro.

In theory, you might be able to use the "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" to create a backup disk, and then import the settings to the fresh install, but I'd be afraid you might bring any problems over with you.

I typically just back up my project files and my "My Documents" folders to DVD or an external drive, and then do a full install.
