Seeking CHEAPER surround sound encoder. I have both ProTools 5.3.1 and Digital Performer 3 for mixing in surround...but no encode capability. What's the cheapest encoder out there?

ACID Pro 4.0 is going to support surround sound. Check out the specs on Sonic Foundry's site. www.sonicfoundry.com

I highly doubt that Acid 4.0 will ENCODE surround in a proper format based on what the website says... this may take me some time to dig up a decent encoder. Plus it sounds like Nashbill is a Mac guy, not PC - am I right?

Yea, I guess so. I saw Protools, but I missed DP so I didn't realize he was Mac. Sorry. If you have a PC you micht check out ACID 4.0. I don't know how extensive it acutually is. Sonic Foundry also has a program called Soft Encode which is for one thing only and that is encoding 5.1 surround. The only problem is that it's discontinued. I think they will still give tech support on it, but you have to buy it somewhere on the web other than their site. This info is only good to you if you have a PC in addition to your Mac. I don't have a Mac myself, so I don't know much about what's out there for them. I'm pretty sure there is a software solution for the Mac for doing it because I ran into it on the web one time, and I got excited until I saw it was for the Mac, so I know it's out there, I just don't remember what it's called. Sorry I couldn't be of any help.
