Ok... look up technologically challenged in the dictionary and you'll see my smiling face. I asked this question in another forum and then realized that this forum is more pertinent.
Basic setup:
Mackie 24x8 board
adats (2 blackface)
masterlink
a bunch of outboard rack stuff, reverbs, delays, etc.
New computer:
P4 2.2Ghx, 512 ram, 120 ghd @7200 rpm, soundblaster 5.1
I downloaded n-tracks yesterday.
I am planning on buying a Alesis HD24 in the next week or so.
I want to:
Be able to get tracks from HD 24 into computer to cut and paste, edit, tweak, etc.
Send them back to HD24
Be able to mix either from Mackie to Masterlink or from computer to masterlink.
For the most part, it is just me and a couple of friends. Rarely, I will have a whole band in to my home studio.
What do I need to accomplish this? Yeah, If I could sell the mackie and adats, I would go with the D8b/HDR comb or possibly pro tools. Tha is not gonna happen though.
Thanks
