Hi all,

I'm having a problem installing new pickups on my Gibson. Here's a rundown. I have an old Gibson Sonex-180 from the early 80s. I wanted to change the pickups. I ordered a set of Gibson 498T and a 490R pickups to install. Well I got them and opened my guitar to see that the wiring is quite different.

First, the old pickups have 2 cables coming out of them where as the new pickups have one. Inside the one cable are 5 strands - white, black, ground, red and green.

Second, this guitar has a DPDT switch (3-way for choosing pickups) and an SPDT switch (for choosing single or double coil operation). I've searched everywhere online and can't find anything regarding information that can help. Here are some more pictures: flickr.com/photos/alfredsmith/

If anyone can help me I'd really appreciate it. I'd take it to a guitar tech but you see I live in a barren music wasteland called Miami and apparently there are no good guitar techs out here who'd like to stay in business.

Thanks,

alfred.
