I see Macintosh as the Only Real Pro- Computer System.
But they donīt have the economic success as Microsoft has had.
Now it seems that Macintosh is making a very hard effort to sell more,
Arenīt you afraid that they will sacrifice quality for price ??

Not while Steve Jobs is the CEO.
Not to say that Apple hasn't made some questionable business decisions in the past. Some of which were so boneheaded that they made even the most diehard Apple fanatic (such as myself) slap their head in amazement.
But the past five years have been different for Apple. Quality will always remain at the top of Steve's priority list...
...along with firing people for calling their mother on their lunch break. :D
There are some that would argue the Mac has already been homogenized to an extent that some of the real benefits are gone. On the other hand others would argue it's better than ever, and it would have to fall a long, long way before a Microsoft enabled PC would be comparable.
Very little seems to move and change faster in our culture than computers and our perceptions about them. Buy what you need today and use it. Worry about tomorrow when tomorrow is here. That's my advice for computers.

The real pros know-Mac is and always will be King of the Audio/video/graphics world. Why else would Bill Gates have tried to copy (non-sucsessfully) the Mac OS. The way I see it, it all has to do with advertisement. If you shove something (i.e. windows/pentium) down the publics throat long enough, then the average Joe Q is going to think; "hey well windows must be the best"? If you make it so accessable to walk into any walmart, sears, sam's club, office dept, 7/11, etc. etc., and all Jow Q sees is windows, then his guess was confirmed, "hey well windows must be the best". And, this is the way the mass Joe Q public in the area I live think, except for the rare & few pro studios, newspaper/graphic, printing companies whom know the real computing truth. Have you ever paid attention to office scenes in todays movies, and in the background you see macs? Just last night I watched Kate & Leopold; in the background-G4's, laptops.
One thing I find really funny is the whole Windows Gigahertz propaganda. A friend of mine put it to me like this; "let's pretend I have a Ford Pinto, and I put a speedometer in the dash that says this Pinto will do 300 mph. Does that mean it really will do 300 mph"?
The future looks bright, especially when I get my dual 1G G4, or the G5 hits the streets. HEY NOW!!!!!
Ciao
Proud owner of 3 Macs (2 are G3's) :D

I'm a PC user. I came into this part of the forum out of curiosity. Maybe I could get some tips on general topics fom here. Now I want to stick up for my PC. Part of the reason Windows is everywhere and Macs aren't is because of some of Apple's past business decisions, and Steve Jobs' attitude towards his employees. That aside, what is wrong with PC's? Everyone who has a PC has had different experiences. Some people, through their own faults, have had problems. Some people have had problems because there actually was something wrong with their PC. Are you saying that nobody ever has problems with Macs? I doubt that. I do music, video, and graphics and I do them on a PC. The other reason PC's are everywhere and everyone has one is because they are more affordable. You talk about the dual 1G G4. You can get a P4 with more than 2Ghtz a lot cheaper. It's all preference. The Pinto comparison is cute, but your friend didn't mention the benchmark tests that prove the ghtz speed. In response to seeing Macs in movies, what better way to advertise? You see stars drinking Pepsi or Coke, and watching a Sony TV. Would it be the first time a company paid to have their product in a movie? That's why they make it so obvious in the scenes you're talking about. It practically goes into a close-up on the Apple logo to appease the "sponsors" who bought that advertising time. "What Women Want" has some big spots with the Apple laptops. That doesn't mean Mel Gibson does or doesn't use an Apple. Saying something is good because an actor in a movie said it is, is a pretty weak argument for Macs. Macs really did use to be better than PC's for music, graphics, etc..., but that's not the case anymore. Mac users are holding on to that. I'm not trying to be argumentative, I just hate one-sided, unsubstantiated arguments.

Well.. I gotta speak up,
I have used both Macs AND Windows and for me there is NO contest.
Macs are simply better machines.
When creating music or video on a Mac I am unaware of the computer...
it becomes another instrument I am using.
When trying to work with a Windows machine
I am constantly reminded I'm on a computer.
I think Macs make it into movies also because they look better :)

PBomb,
Get a grip! Noticed lately this is a Mac thread ? Why do pc pukes show up in Mac threads to try and convince us on how we can save a few bucks or how their OS/hardware is superior ? Do you guys have inferiority complexes or what ? Can you guys read ? I was doing video/audio 5 years before the pc world figured out they could do that !! I dont care about movies and commercials and what or who is showing off whatever as Jobs or Gates have never invited me to dinner. Go to the thread where you can contribute something and do me a favor shut the door behind you.
Simon,
I dont get it do you mean windows/intel ? What is a pro - computer anyway?
Would Apple compromise I doubt it! Is 6 percent of the market enough apparently so as their still floating. Jobs wont let obscurity happen I believe since he is still part of the principal ownership, however the prior idiot running the company was hell bent on the dollar and nothing else!!

Come on gentlemen (and ladies), let's not start a flame war over this. The Mac vs. PC discussion is years old, and really is a battle nobody can win.
If we're going to discuss it, let's do it rationally.
I'd like to contribute that comparing Macs vs. PC's based on processor speed is a faulty comparison. They're different processor families, and different operating systems. It's an apples to oranges comparison.
Historically the Mac has been better at audio/visual applications. One of the main reasons I see for this is the fact that the mac had better hardware to begin with. Now they are about on par w/ the PC in processing power and multimedia features. One of the main differences is that the companies who started out supporting the Mac platform have grown over the years, and typically are much more rooted in the Mac platform. Many also offer PC support, but as PC's really just began to be comperable in features a few years back, the suffer from a lack of software support.
Another key reason the Mac tends to be favored is that the hardware and variations thereof are more limited. With only one company making the computers and few hardware perheprial vendors, there are less variants available in Macs. PC's however have innumerable hardware vendors making everything from processors, to motherboards, to various cards. There are infinite variations available in the PC market, from home built to various store-bought systems and it is very hard for a software vendor to accomodate all of the possible variants successfully. Thus many vendors have limited how deeply they delve in the PC market with their software offerings.
Thoughts?

MEAT:
To me, my needs and personal point of view, I donīt find in a PC, a HARD WORK tool... but when I posted this topic, I didnīt expected it to become a space for the already known and boring conflict between the 2 plattforms owners.
I personally like to work on a MAC, but I really donīt feel the need to justify that. If I worked on a PC I wouldnīt either.
The 2 computers are 2 completely different experiences.
I was just worried about the consequences of the attempt to comercialize any product...(which is exactly what Apple is trying to do.)
Quality always goes down after that...
Thanks, for replying.
Simon.
Arbiter,
No flame intended I chose the best for my needs!! I chose quality and ingenuity over convention that's all that matters.

So I'm a puke am I? Sounds like you're the one with an inferiority complex. If there was no flame intended, then why are you calling names?

Try to to keep it technical you people.
Thanks.
