Hello everyone,

I am looking for opinions, facts, and/or opinionated facts about which digital audio interface I should buy.

I should start by saying that I work with the MOTU 828 every day, and have it to be an excellent piece. However, I own a relatively modest project studio, centered around a G4 MP/500. I'm running MOTU DP3. Most of my music is done in the MIDI environment, but more and more I'd like to be able to record and play back audio as well. For right now, I'm just using the Mac's built-in A/D and D/A converters.

There are two things holding me back on the 828: cost, and the fact that I only really need stereo inputs and outputs, not the 8 of each found on the 828.

If you have recommendations other than the 828, please consider the following questions:

- Is it's sound as good as the 828?
- Does it offer the same bone-simple plug-and-go capability of the 828, or will I sacrifice hours trying to tweak ASIO drivers, etc ?
- Cost

Thank you in advance for your help and expertise. If you'd also like to help me with my mixer questions, please check out my similar question in the Pro Audio Forum for Mixers.

Cheers!

I think that you already know the answer...
You already love Motu 828 before you even have it, and you are just expecting someone to tell you Go Ahead.
Well, you are right to love it. I have one myself, and use it with my Powerbook G4 and DP3...
I also had that question befoer buying it. "But I only need one stereo input !"
Now I know that once you have 8...you simply won´t regret it.
And you will start using them as long as your projects start to grow up.

Go ahead! make an effort I am sure you will like it as much as I did.
