Looking for a new compressor for "home" mastering-not really in the $2k price-- maybe 'round $600-1000...an early EMT,Altec,Urei,Orban, DBX all seem to be in that price>>>>_____ maybe wait for a used Avalon 747, Manley, Cranesong.. probably never in that price range and working ......,,,,on the new front Buzz, Alesis CLX 440, SPL,Dramer
,,,so whats a poor boy to do?
Our system/chain is a Langevin dual vocal--VS 2480--Orban 642b EQ --Finalizer--and a Masterlink:::::nice sound but a little sterilized..looking for that Manley/GML/Distressor gear at a FMR price---too wishful? cjogo http://fp2k.redshift.com/cjogo/crystalrecording.htm

I may be a little late on this but what do you use as a DAW?

Waves makes great sounding plugs for the price you`re looking at. For example, i use the Native Gold Bundle and the plugs kick ass especially the Renaissance collection. Purchased it for around $850.
I would never buy a hardware piece to master in the price range you`re looking at.

My recommendation though is to save your $$$ and get the real deal:

A MANLEY VARI MU
AN AVALON VT 747 SP
or AVALON 2044

Have you looked at the Focusrite MixMaster? I think it's one of the most underrated compressors out there. It's the only analog multiband compressor in its price range (just over a thousand dollars) that I'm aware of and one of the only analog multiband compressors in any price range. It may not be as tweakable as a Finalizer or a plugin, but it sounds great and is very well-built. It's gotten some great reviews, I'm not sure why it hasn't taken off...

Other than that, I'd look for something used...and I have heard that those little RNC's do a good job on program material as well.
