Hi, sorry if this is a stupet question, but can someone tell me how, when a simple line in is plugged in (analog) to the pc, how do you hear the sounds on the pc, like, while your recording with a line in rec. program?
also, anybody know of a decent freeware rec. app. that you can use to, for example rec. a keyboard to the pc - "analogly"?

1. You should hear it through your normal computer monitors.
2. Audacity is a great freeware program to record on a computer with. Assuming your looking for the absolute cheapest in budget recording software.

Im not exactly sure what you are trying to accomplish, but some free audio programs include Audacity and Krystal.

So, are you able to play audio using things like Windows Media Player? If so, your sound card may have one of those software mixers with controls for the various input sources, such as CD, Mic/line ins, Wav file playback and so on.
Check to see if your setup has something like this, and that all sources are unmuted and turned up.
Also, some cards are not full duplex, meaning that they can't record and playback at the same time. If that's the case, you're pretty much SOL on doing any kind of multitrack stuff with overdubs.
