When running protools 7.0''standard edition''. How much memory should my computer have. "Asking because my computer lags when running protools".
I scanned for viruses and found none. I only have 512 mb and 93 gigs.

yeah,
you should get more ram, like 2 gigs. 512 is the very minimal, you will see improved performance with more ram, of course it also depends on what speed your puter is as well to a point.

Your computer could "lag" for any of thousands and thousands of reasons. I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that it's ram related. That said however 512 is not enough memory. Get plenty it's cheap.
Same though process would apply to thinking it might be a virus.
You'll need to get WAY more specific in describing your troubles for anyone to hazzard an educated guess.

I agree with everyone else here that there could be a large list of issues, but RAM is certainly something that should be addressed in this case. I like to think of 1 gig as the bare minimum to run a smooth session.
I would upgrade the RAM and see where that gets you. If it clears everything up than you won't have to dig any deeper.

You processor may also have a lot to do with it. What type is it, and how fast? Also, session size can affect performance. The more tracks/plugins/fades you have, the more your computer needs to do.

In my experience, the number of tracks, and even to a greater extent the # of plug-ins you can use is dictated more by RAM than proc speed. (although this is important as well.) I echo everyone saying 2 GB is minimal for any serious use, but don't get sucked into the 4 GB void.. Windows 32 bit edition can only see around 3.2 GB even when you install 4, and that's after jumping through hoops. 2 is about where you want to be.

I'd say that 2 GB is minimal for any AMD or Pentium or G4 (or G3) that is not dual core.
If you have a dual-core processor i'd say that 1 GB is the minimal for mac and 1.5 for PC. XP and Vista are incredibly slow compared to Mac OS X when it comes to opening up and executing large programs like DAW software, photoshop, and movie editing software.
