hey everyone,

looking to get my first software sampler (first sampler for that matter) and just wondered what everyones opinions are. I will be running it through DP3 so I dont necessarily need a stand alone program.

I was recommended HALion, have played with Unity (too unstable), and dont want Reason. I am interested in SampleTank XL and the new Kontakt from IN (the mac version is not out yet). Should I wait until Kontakt comes out, I know it will have the biggest library out to date (6 cds) but will it be that much better. Also, what does anyone think about HALion and SampleTank??

I am also interested in one that is OS X compatable; as soon as Digital Performer is OS X compatable I am greatly looking forward to making the OS switch. Thanks for any and all help, it is greatly appreciated.

I started a topic, probably in the wrong forum (in the DAW forum), about soft samplers. It's Soft Samplers - Who's Using What? (http://www.sweetwater.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1422). I was hoping to get some good responses on the various soft samplers out there. If you have any experience up to now, feel free to join in on the conversation.

If you take the soft sampler thing serious, you may want to think about dedicating a computer to it. If you are a dedicating a computer to it, you have more software options because the your OS and platform can be selected to match the software's requirements.

Other than that, how do you intend to use your sampler? What do you require of your sampler? Why don't you want Reason?

As far as libraries go, anything that can use Akai format CDs has the biggest library to date. That includes HALion and GigaSampler at least.

I know this doesn't help much - but both Sampletank & Halion have their benefits. If you want to "seamlessly" operate w/DP without hassle, go to Sampletank. Halion will require VST wrapper, unless they have updated it...
