I have very little experience with Akai samples and no experience with Akai samplers. I have used a few sound card based samplers and my Emu ESI-4000. While looking at software samplers to replace my Emu, I've used Chicken Systems Translator to "translate" samples to Akai and GigaStudio format to try in GigaStudio. These samples cannot convert properly due to differences in the architecture of the ESI-4000 and the evidently standard Akai format (LFO's and filters don't "translate" too well). No surprise and I'm not looking to fix that issue.

But, what about Akai samples? I would expect (and possibly be wrong) that an Akai S-5000 or S-6000 would have some advanced synthesis options that weren't available in the S-1000's. Can any sample made in an S-5000 be used in an S-1000? What are your experiences with using Akai samples with non-Akai equipment? How "standard" is the Akai standard?

My experience with using Akai samples with non-akai equipment would be varied. Some samplers just seem to translate the sample and nothing else (LFO's, Filters, yes even keymapping) while others - Emu would be an example - seem to read some Akak samples even better than an Akai sampler.
