What would I use to quiet the sound of a amp in my control room?

I'm not sure I understand the question fully. There's a few things that need to be clarified...

A guitar amp? A bass amp? A power amp for your monitors? Do you want an amp that OPERATES quietly? Or one that has low-volume output? Or do you just want it to be low-volume inside your control room, but record the tone of a cranked amp?

What exactly are you trying to do?
