I'm putting together a new workstation for recording:

Intel motherboard with Core 2 Duo E6200 processor
4 GB RAM
QUADRO FX 400 video card

I have everything hooked up correctly, I'm positive. But, my monitor is VGA, and the video card is DVI so I have an adaptor connecting. When I start it up, I don't get an beep error to signal RAM error or anything like that, but I get no video feed. What might the problem be?

The card I know is good, could it be the adaptor? Or do I need to get a DVI monitor? Any thoughts, ideas?

Move the dvi to the other port. i think on the nvidea fx card the one closer to the motherboard is considered port one. You'll have to re-boot so the card recognises the monitor. Also.. if you attach a second monitor.. you have to re-boot so the card figures out there are 2 monitors, then go to the nvidea desktop tools and set up how you want the monitors spanned etc.

I work primarily in video and build dual monitor dvi set ups all the time. If this doesn't sork.. check the adaptor thing for bent pins, as well as the vga cable.

Hope this helps

I'm sucking wind trying to get my pro-tools and midi stuff working.. but i build giant graphics work stations for a certian space agency that's national... so i'm elbow deep in fast computers all the time!

I'm having the hardest time getting the internal synth in protools to work! Grrrr I've never had luck with computers and recording.. gimme a adat or 4 .. I have a korg d3200 and love it.. I actually purpose built my music computer.. and it still hasn't done anything I'm happy with. I put together a bunch of drum sounds into a reasonable drum track, and recorded guitar and bass to it.. but it was a real effort, and once the synth stuff started going hay-wire.. my ac97 drivers crapped out and the computer fell silent for a few weeks!
