I am trying to record from my turntables threw my Audio/video reciever...I am having trouble picking up any sound when I connect the Rec (out) to my laptops microphone in.

Any advice or help hints would be greatly appreciated.

I have tried using a few different recording software programs...suck as (Audicity), (Polderbits).

Thanks in advance.

What are you using to record with?

I have several ways I record vinyl.

1. TTUSB direct in to my computer

2. Edirol UA1EX

Method one is a direct connection and inside my computer I can use programs such as Audacity, Sonar, Cubase etc.

Method two involves hooking my turntables up to my normal DJ mixer, and then going out of the record out of my mixer into the Edirol, which in turns goes into my computer.

I think your issue is your missing the phono preamp or not getting enough juice into whatever interface your using (or if I read correctly no interface at all and using your mic input on your computer which could be the major reason in itself). Which one are you using and how are you hooking everything up?

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I have been trying to run out of the Record out of the reciever that is power my system and speakers...its a basic 600 watt Yamaha reciever. The cable I was using to connect the reciever to my laptop is a RCA to 1/8" mic cable. However, when I plug in and start spinning records I get a error message saying the recording system does not pick up any sound.

From everything I have been reading on Polderbits site and audicity this connection should be possible...but still not luck.

I think I will take your advice and use a product like the edirol device.

Thanks again

Hmmm... even without a phono preamp you should get some kind of sound - you are connecting from a line level output. It wouldn't sound very good without the phono equalization, but you'd hear something. Going into a mic input it would be grossly distorted also.

Most, if not all, of the little cheapie mics used with computer sound cards are electret condensers, which are powered thru the mic jack via a 1/8" TRS type connector. The cord you describe using would be a single-ended 1/8", is that right? If so, it could simply be the jack is wired differently and the signal leads are not connecting.

Some sound cards have line inputs for purposes such as this... what about yours?
