i have read that the older powerbooks g4 400/500 mhz are actually far BETTER for audio work than the newer 550/667 mhz models. this has to do with the higher bandwidth spec of the older processors. tests done with logic are documented on this page:

somebody out there PLEASE confirm or comment on this as i think it concerns a great many of us.
