Hello again guys. Trying to decide on the best thing to do. I don't have any monitors. I have good headphones though. I need to get monitors. I thought I would have $1000 to get the JBL LSR4326P's, but I only have $500. Not sure when I'll have the other $500. Should I:

a) By Cheaper monitors, like the M-Audio BX8a's
b) By one of the LSR4326 and then If I can afford another later on, get it. Is getting only one even worth it)
c) Keep mixing with my AKG K240 Studio headphones and save my $500 (Or pay some extra bills:).

Some non-specific advice: if you can get better, get it; if you can't, save until you can.

There are good monitors at just about every price point. The first question is, what is your budget? Once you have answered that, you should research your options and see if there is something that not only suits your budget, but also meets your current monitoring criteria. Some questions you should be asking yourself when in research mode:
What type of music am I primarily working on?
If I get monitors that cost over my budget, is my room properly acoustically treated to complement my monitors' function?
Do I have a space constraint?
What is my room size?
Will these be my only pair of monitors for the next year? 2 years? etc.

Good Monitors are essential for a solid mixing atmoshpere I believe.

Also, whenever I have cheaped out on something, I always end up paying more in the long run on the better product I should of just bought in the first place.

Save up and get a good set of monitors, the Jbls and dynaudio are nice for the grand price range

...And don't forget the used market. When I want something better than I can afford, which is often, I buy used. For things like monitors which generally don't show much wear and tear when they're confined to the studio, there are some very good values to be had.
