Who's using what for soft samplers and why? I've only "toyed" with GigaStudio and slightly looked at Reason's sampler. I don't like the LFO and filter options for GigaStudio. They don't seem to compare to a hardware device. No comment yet on Reason. How does Halion fare?

I own reason and fruity loops. Both are excellent. Reasons rewire allows you to record track for track into your sequencer and also you can play them. If you get Reason get recycle so you convert wave sound to use with it's sampler. VSTi's in steinberg product are great especially fm7 and pro 52 by native instruments. Hallion and lm4 are also good.

Do you consider Fruity Loops a soft sampler? I know it works with samples, but can you sequence it externally or trigger it live from a keyboard? I haven't used Fruity Loops since some version 1.x.
In Reason, ReCycle is just good for the Rex player, right? Can't you use any wave files in the sampler? ReCycle and Rex player look neat enough, but I would just assume chop something up myself and trigger it at will.
Have you used the extended synthesis options in any of these sotware samplers? Have you tweaked the filters and used the LFOs? Do you use samplers that way? Simple playback is almost useless to me.
Thanks,

You never hear much about it....but I love NI Battery for drums. I can easily assign a .wav drum samples into it and audition many variations of my MIDI drum sequences quickly.
Anything that speeds up my creative process is always a cherished tool.

I have heard of Battery and I think I heard good things. Is it for drums only or is it a general use sampler? Care to share some details on how it works?
Reason has ReDrum which is *just* a sampler designed to work well as a drum machine with a built in step style sequencer. It works almost like an Electribe ER-1 that uses samples. It can respond to short triggers like a drum machine and has channel exclusivity between two of the channels so you can map the open and closed hat to cancel each other out.
