hmmm...
And your logged in as the admin user correct? Can you provide more details on what steps you are at and where you are clicking in the msconfig.
Also what virus and/or firewall programs are running on your computer?
Thanks!

Wait, are you on Windows XP or Windows 2000? They are different.

sorry in my last entry i typed
"...uninstall and reinstall permissions... "
I meant to say uninstall and reinstall PRINTER ( 3 times !!! ) ... because for a while it was sounding like some sort of security driver ( hpz12 and pml were the kkey words here ) that was running from HP at start up for the HP printer I have...that was causing the issue for others...and since it sounded like all the right stuff in regards to me ...I tried that too...NOPE.

I could'nt get anything out of Symantek / Norton last night...or HP guy the night before...lets just say the tech guys were not very helpful...Norton guy started by saying it was a virus...then ended ( after he realized I was'nt a total novice and had some info for him ) that I better call Microsoft. But I guess if it's possible Id like to know if there is a way to just turn off Norton...and dis allow internet connection. There used to be that in past versions of Norton...it was like " dont allow the internet to connect " or something. and why cant you just disable the darn thing...I thought thats what I was esentially doing in msconfig...but I dont know...I hav'nt changed any firewall settings or anything really except the Norton install a few days ago...which seems to coincide with this issue.
I have also updated my Protools to 7.1cs10 and my i lok driver from pace...again all on sweetwaters advice.
I am ( and have been )running SP2 and have always stayed up to date with the Windows stuff.

Scott here is what I do ...and have done... with great success until a few nights ago.... this is from sweetwaters page..
Go to Start > Run, type in "msconfig" (without the " " marks)and press OK. When the System Configuration Utility comes up, click on the Startup tab. Press the button to "Disable All." Click on the Services tab. Check the box at the bottom of the window to "Hide All Microsoft Services." Press the "Disable All" button, but only AFTER hiding the microsoft services. Press "OK," then "Restart." When Windows boots back up, check the box next to "Don't show this message..." and then press "OK."
(I have to say here scott this post has always begged the question.." should'nt the stuff below be put BEFORE the instructions say re-start" ? I mean if you go back to msconfig after you restart to turn on the mme refresher stuff... you gotta do the whole retart thing ??? just an observation )
NOTE: After pressing "Disable All," Pro Tools users must re-check "MMERefresh" in the Startup tab and "Digidesign MME Refresh Service" in the Services tab. GigaStudio users must check "msg32" in the Startup tab, even if GigaStudio was installed and then uninstalled later. All users will notice that the system tray is now empty (or very close to being empty).

If the problems you are experiencing are related to something purchased from Sweetwater please call tech support @ 1-800-222-4700 x6400 and they can walk you through fixing this issue....
My general response is to destroy all virus related programs. I am a big fan of not using Norton or any virus programs on a recording computer. They eat up resources, and do a variety of other things that in my opinion can almost seem worse than actually getting a virus.
P.S. What step in the below do you see the error. If your getting this far along in the MSCONFIG then I am confused where the access is denied.

It's after I do everything in MS config and click apply and OK...to proceed to the restart. there are 2 identicle "errors" one when I click "apply"...and one when I click "OK" out of msconfig... before I restart...and as Iv said the changes ( or most of them except whatever's not )do seem to be taking place...because apon re-boot...all the apps are gone from the "tray" including Norton... so ...I here ya...in a perfect world I would have a new Mac purchased right from sweetwater with everything I need pre loaded and configured etc etc...but hey ...one must work with what one has...and with a PC and often needing to work in ProTools with the internet available for work flow and downloads etc etc ...what can I do...gotta have anti virus runnin with a PC connected to the internet...or all ^%$* insues.
thanx for the words and advice.
peace and respect,
vinnie.
