Compressor recommendations for kick and snare tracking please

Can anyone recommend some good compressors to use on kick and snare for tracking? I’m looking for something to add a little punch and avoid any nasty spikes. Thanks in advance for any advice!

What's your budget? If you can afford it, an LA-3 or 1176 will do the trick.

Thank you for the reply. I would like to keep it around $800 per channel, but that LA-3 is very tempting. I figure if a piece of gear is “that much better” it is worth saving a little longer to get it. The LA-3 looks very user friendly. Thanks again.
