I'm currently using the motor mix with my digi001 setup and, honestly, I can't imagine how I worked without it. Its a very useful tool. The only major drawback I have is that it is not extremely responsive (well, the faders that is) going into pro tools. Often times I have to make some relatively drastic movements on the faders before the display responds to the changes. Of course that can be smoothed out by using the mouse or just entering the values on the screen. I guess that kinda defeats the purpose tho, huh? I would say this; using a good control surface -- including the motor mix -- will only help you... a lot! There are numerous functions the motor mix literally places at your fingertips. If you can afford to buy a better one, go for it, but if you dont have $1,500-3.5k to spend and you're mixing with a mouse, the motor mix would be a great investment for you.
hope i helped a little

Thanks Bro..............I'm thinking we might wait and upgrade down the road and buy something in the price range you were talking about. We actually hope to get Pro Tools HD here within a year.........By the way have you checked out the other mixers on the Digidesign website. I'm talking about the $12,000 one and the $6,000 one........they are sweet. Thanks again!
