I'm thinking of upgrading from my digi 002 to a logic pro system w/ apogee rosetta 800's.
my question is - how does all this connect?
the rosetta has no mic pre's - so u plug the pre's into the rosetta, then into the computer?
i'm confused...lol

I use my Rosetta 800 for the A/D conversion. I connect my mic pre into the analog in of the 800. Choose Analog as "Source to Digital Outs on the 800. Come out of the 800 via ADAT into my 001 and choose the ADAT input in PT on the track I'm recording on.
For tracking I monitor using the 001. If you use the 800 you will hear both the 800 and 001 at some point depending on your monitor setting for the 002. You can use the 800 to monitor thru but you will have to keep changing the settings for the digital outs depending if you're in playback or record mode. It's just pushing a button a couple of times on the 800, but I don't like going back and forth. You can monitor without changing the settings if you don't mind hearing the 2 sources at once for a certain period of time. It's easier using the 001. You can use the 800 for mixing without changing the settings because there is no live input. It's a little hard to explain without explaining the way the 800 is set up.
I'm also using PT 5.2, so there may be some changes to the monitor modes in the newer version of PT. I love my setup and would highly recommend getting one.
I love my Rosetta 800s - use them in front of an HD1 system.
