Hi all - been a while since I've posted.

I track with a Firepod into a computer I built a couple of years ago with an Athlon 64 3200+ (slightly overclocked), 1GB of RAM, and 3 HD's with Win XP pro.

I just noticed that I can grab up a dual core AMD Opteron 165 (which will fit in the same socket/motherboard that I already have) at a great price - around $150 bucks.

I'm planning to purchase Cubase 4. I wonder if you guys notice much improvement in performance and overhead with dual core/CPU machines? I hear that it's better, and that programs like Cubase are some of the few that can tap into multithreading, but how true is it?

Thanks!
SM

Peace!

You probably won't see a huge difference in raw speed, but you'll find that you can run more plugins and more tracks before you run out of CPU.

Opteron installed and running great overclocked from 1.8GHz to 2.61GHz at stock voltage! I'm happy.

Last question: Does Cubase LE (came with my Firepod) support multithreading? I plan on getting Cubase 4 soon, but it just hit me that LE might not even be able to tap into my new found power.

Any ideas?
