OK, I give up. I have tried everything I know how to do. I have a G4/350/10g/192 machine I bought from a well known Nashville Christian music bassist. Had it sitting around for about a year and finally found a use for it as an internet machine in our control room since we just installed a DSL service and networked all our computers(about time you say?).

Well this G4 had OS8.6 on it and the few times I had tried it, it seemed OK. I wanted to up it to OS9. I did a clean installed after reiniting the drive with Apple Drive Setup from the OS9 master disc. Well this thing just won't run stable. It crashes all the time, freezes doing things like just moving the mouse or launching a program or just booting up. It won't even run stable on the OS9 disc or SystemWorks which has OS9 on it.

I had been told to update the firmware flash rom. I was told it was on the master disc, but I do not see it, only a G3 firmware upgrade which won't run, says not on this machine. I found a firmware upgrade for G4 on the Apple support site. I downloaded it and ran it. Did not help. So, I went back and did a clean 8.6 install and it seems to be fine. Went back to 9, same thing...Oh, 9.1 does the same problem...

Today I was told to try turning off the Adobe type manager, that it can cause a problem. This did seem to all start right after we had done the install, setup Explorer and AOL and downloaded Acrobat Reader.

I will have a chance tomorrow to try that...

Any ideas, I am fed up, ready to just leave it on 8.6..

Thanks. I ave tried most all that. Nothing so far as helped.....

I noticed you censored me. Took out my complaint topic. Funny tat it took several days to get a response and then only after I complained. I talked to Chuck tonight at is home. We are good friends. I wished seen that sooner so I could have told him. Will tomorrow. Did not think it warranted that....

Point taken, Thanks

I was just a little taken back that it was gone. I have been critical before on many forums and have never been moved, deleted or whatever. I think even though maybe illtaken it keeps us on our toes. I was just surprised that after several days I was getting no responses, but many views. I am sorry for jumping the gun. I need to remember what my wife tells me. Go to bed and decide in the morning if you still want to say that. She is a school teacher and deals with well...you know stuff all the time. She wants to unleash on a daily basis.

Thanks. BTW I think SW has the very best looking forums I have ever seen. I love the way they are layed out and the bright color division between posts really is nice. Kudos on the site and forum. I remember in the early 90's when Chuck was at my place in KY and had a laptop with the very first SW homepage. He was so proud of it. Who would have thought it would have grown to what it has. I am very proud of him and all of SW. I did not even have an inernet connection then. I thought it was a waste of time. Boy was I ever wrong...

Sounds like bad RAM. How much RAM do you have? Try pulling the RAM chips out one at a time and reboot to see if that's causing your problem.

I just read your keyboard complaint as well... you might want to try a different keyboard first. You can buy a new Apple pro keyboard for $60...

You can do a 9.2.2 update which is only really going to make you more osX ready, Norton is not going to fix an extension issue.... those utilites are for other problems.... If you need the firmware update send me a message... I have it and can give it to you....
