I have a new Creation Station with mbox2. I've loaded Sibelius 3 into it but when I try to play a score I get no sound. Checking Control Panel-sounds and audio devices, everything is grayed out. Although mbox is listed as the audio device, all options for volume, sound playback, sound recording, etc. is not available. My suspicion is this might be the reason I can't hear anything from Sibelius? Any thoughts on correcting this?

thanks
steve

do you have the WAVE and ASIO drivers loaded? Also, you can't play audio through the Mbox when ProTools is open.

dpd, thanks for responding.

There's no problem playing through mbox at all, the problem shows up when I try to play something I've written in Sibelius. In trying to figure out what the problem might be, since I see nothing in Sibelius that's amiss, I looked in 'control panel-sounds and audio and devices'. And as I said everything is grayed out. Normally you have control over volumes, recording, can place a speaker Icon in the task bar, etc. So I get the feeling that maybe when they were putting the comp together they forgot to turn something on or register something.
What "WAVE and ASIO drivers loaded?"

What you are experiencing is normal behavior for Digidesign interfaces. By default, Digi interfaces (002, Mbox2, etc.) are designed to ONLY work with Pro Tools. They cannot be controlled by Windows (which is what the S&AD CP does). As long as they show up as playback devices, and as long as you are able hear audio in applications besides Pro Tools, then it is working properly, regardless of what is grayed out or not. Volume is controlled on the MBox2 itself from the knobs on the front.

Since you are not hearing audio from Sibelius (actually the Kontakt player that comes with it), then things are not set up in your system to work by default. You will need to manually do this. The best thing you can use is the MMe Helper, available here: http://www.railjonrogut.com/DigiMMEHelper.zip

Matt,Thanks for the input.

I did download and run helper. Its really not clear how to use it even after reading the explanation several times. Clearly the list of programs are the .exe of the appropriate application. I took a chance and high lighted the Digi MME helper .exe, clicked add which I navigated to the Pro tools folder, high lighted Pro tools .exe and clicked update. Two things changed. It added Pro tools to the Digi MME helper list and when I started Sibelius I got its intro music. This didn't work before. Sibelius still won't play the notes written. And in the list of Play-Devices-sound set, Kontaki is not listed as a choice.

Questions:
The .exe's in MME helper, do they replace the .exe of that particular program in their respective folder or are they all to be directed to the Pro tool's .exe?

How do I get the Kontaki choice into Sibelius, so the notes can be played.

thanks

steve

Matt - is that the Registry tweak? I know I had to update the Registry to make CD Architect 5.2 play via Digi hardware on my CS machines.

No. i do not know of any registry tweaks to that effect, and really do not advocate them unless you REALLY know what you're doing before you get in there.
