I'm curious...
How does one go about finding a 1/2" analog multitrack reel-to-reel tape deck for recording?
I used to own a TEAC A-3340 when I first got started in the 70's, but wouldn't know where to start looking for a new one now. I couldn’t find Studer's web site; & I'm not sure if companies like Fostex or Amex even make tape decks any more.
Would really like to know.
Thanks,

I'm not sure if anyone is making new decks anymore, but I purchased a used Otari MTR-12 through Soundbroker.com. Had it worked on by John French at JRF Magnetics - he may have some decks for sale. Also check with Randy Blevins at Blevins Audio in Nashville. In the UK, check Larking's List.
You may also want to check our trading post. I see tape recorders up there from time to time, and in some cases at some pretty low prices.

I have to admit, seeing this made me think about those things too, and how I haven't seen one in a very long time. Typed "reel to reel" over there at ebay and POOF! Bunch of 'em. Good luck with it, and thanks for reminding me!
Too bad you aren't looking for 1/4 inch, 1/2 track. I know where you can grab 2-3 working Ampex ATR-800's (circa early 1980's) for the price of coming to pick them up (Ft. Wayne, IN) complete with service manuals. Finding parts for these puppies is a bitch, but they are easy to work on.

I have two people queued up on the 4 ATR-800s we have at the station. So, right now I would say they aren't available. These are 2 track units. I'll post something if the other guys decline.
Turns out that the person wanted a different model deck. If anyone is interested in these decks, please contact me via PM.

That's great information - I had guys in the Chicago area that did that for me, but it was well over 10 years ago. Thanks!
