I have put MacPro plans on hold to buy a laptop for my girlfriend for school use that I would use periodically for recording. This works since I won't use it a lot in the next two years so I can wait to buy a MacPro.
I will be buying a Digi 002 rack and want to run that on a Windows based laptop. Obviously I want to spend as little as possible. I just need to know where to focus my money. I know RAM is a big deal but was wondering about RAM and Bus speeds.
I was looking at acouple Dells with 667MHz FSBs and was wondering how important the Memory speed was. Should I go with 667 Memory or will 533 run fine if I have enough? I know newer systems allow a 5:4 ratio between speeds but would it run better at the same speeds?
I was also looking at buying an external drive. Problem is the Dell I was looking at only has one Firewire port. Would I run my Digi 002 through Firewire and the HDD through USB or the other way around? If my computer has USB 2.0 does that support High Speed USB? I've seen Lacie drives that run High Speed USB and Firewire and I think the Digi 002 has both as well.
Sorry about all the questions. I have lots and I like to research my purchases and I wouldn't expect Dell to be too helpful on the matter.
