Distortion in Media Player/Winamp

I don't know if this has been posted before, but I seem to all of a sudden be getting a lot of distortion on music played from both Windows Media Player and Winamp in Windows. Sonar seems fine, and stuff that plays from Flash Player on webpages also seems okay. DVDs will play just fine, too.

I recently downloaded the newest version of DirectX, but it didn't seem to help. I have tested these programs on several of my audio outputs and I'm getting distortion on my internal sound card, and all the output pairs on my Layla 24/96 that I tested out (currently the first two pairs), which tells me it's probably not a cable issue. Any ideas?

I would first recommend that you uninstall and then reinstall WMP and Winamp. Make sure when you reinstall that you get the latest versions of both from their respective websites. Also, if you installed anything just before this problem began, you should uninstall it and see if that helps. If not, post back.
