hey everyone. this is my first post here, and i have a few questions about setting up the equipment that i have and what i'm thinking about getting.

i have a Tascam m-1600 mixer (16 channel)
here's some info for the mixer (http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/1997_articles/apr97/tascamm1600.html)

i will be connecting the mixer to TWO fostex d-80's (with 25pin to RCA snakes)
here's the instruction manual for the d-80 (http://www.fostex.com/support/pdf/fostex/d80/d80_owners_manual.pdf)

here is the headphone amp that i'm thinking about getting (OZ HM6 QMix):
http://www.macmidimusic.com/prod.itml/icOid/2514

here are my NEWBIE questions:
1) How well will this headphone amp work in conjuction with my mixer?

2) Exactly, how would i connect my mixer to the inputs of the headphone amp? (keep in mind that the d-80 recorders i'm using don't have headphone outs and the tascam mixer i'm using has 25pin bus/group outs)

3) If i'm plugging Sure Drum mics (that do not use phantom power) into the first 6 XLR inputs of my mixer, will i be able to run 2 Oktava condensers that do require phantom power at the same time on the last 2 XLR inputs [without damaging any equipment]?

the mixer does not have seperate phantom power on individual channels. It's just either on or off for the entire board.

any answers and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

1) Great! I love those things

2) Hook it to your aux 1/2 outputs. Use those auxes to create your headphone/cue mix

3) Should be fine, but wouldn't hurt to see if you can find someone to create individual phantom switches for you. I hate it when they design boards like that...it's so annoying.

thanks for your response...let me see if i have this correct.

my mixer has These "aux sends" outputs: 1/2 , 3, 4, 5, 6

SO, i hook the aux 1/2 send outputs to the main inputs on my OZ headphone amp? THEN, can i hook each of the other 'aux send' outputs (3,4,5,6) to the mono inputs of the OZ headphone amp ? I just use regular 1/4 mono cords for this, correct?

Just use aux 1/2, and then on the console use the aux 1/2 knobs to send signal from that channel to the headphones. This is creating a headphone mix :)

Yes, use balanced 1/4" cables

running phtantom power on the console globaly does not affect dynamic microphones at least not for the first few minutes... jk
