Anyone have a Digidesign Mbox with Pro Tools LE yet? I'm thinking about getting it. I've been running Pro Tools Free for the last year. I really like Pro Tools. Now I need 24 audio tracks.

Hi SWD,
The MBox looks really good, not even considering the low price tag. I don't have one (they're just now about to be released), but I got to play with one at the ProTools HD clinic I went to the other day. It seems like a perfect solution for people who just need stereo in and out. (Not to mention that the specs for digital conversion look better than the 001).
Even better, if you're using midi, they're coming out with midi time stamping.
If you're using Windows, I think the Windows MBox is coming out later in the summer.

Thanks for the input. I'm on an iMac. So the Mbox could be a great, and immediate, solution.

how may tracks at once can you record on the mbox?

This is probably a stupid question. I have a somewhat standard computer with a simple soundcard. Will the Mbox act as my soundcard in recording situations? or will I have to buy a better soundcard? thanks-

Yes the mbox would act as a second "audio interface" or sound card.
For games or office applications, the first card would handle things. The mbox would only work for audio handled in the ProTools LE editing software.

I have an MBox hooked up to an iMac and they work very nicely together (and take up very little space between them!) So if you are already using PT Free, i would definitely suggest the MBox. The only consideration is; How many inputs (instruments/ sound modules etc) do you need to send to Pro Tools? I only have 1 synth, so i can send it's L & R Stereo signal to Mbox, so it's perfect for me. If you have more than 1 sound source though, maybe consider the 001.
I am running my iMac with 640MB of ram and have no problems.

Allo All,
I'm new to the boards, so forgive me if some of these questions are redundant...

1)I have a very simple 1 man recording setup and will really only need the two ins and outs that the Mbox offers. That being said, would you recommend the Mbox, or a Firewire interface (if money is not a huge factor). I ask only because I've heard many bad things about USB audio, but I'm wondering if that doesnt come into play since we're only talking 4 total ins and outs.

2)Does the Mbox come with a regular version of Protools? If so, will it come with the OSX version when it is available? (ie- mailin form)

3)If anyone wants to steer me MORE towards firewire, any SMALLER firewire interfaces available (than the usual 828 and Firestation)

Thanks Much :-)
