I've been searching most of the day for a fix to this and cant seem to find an answer. I want to use my Mbox as the main audio device for my PC. I have the Wave driver and Asio driver installed and the Mbox works great with Reason and PT. However, when I open up the control panel in XP it wont allow me to select the digidesign as the default audio device under the audio tab. It simply isnt there. Under the device manager it shows the Mbox as a device and it says it is working properly, and it is except I can't listen to media player. My sound card drivers and software are not installed. Im running PT 6.4 on a P4 2.8GB processor, with an asus P4P800 motherboard, a GB of RAM, and windows XP Pro. Thanks in advance for the help!

Pretty similar system to mine.... Do you have on-board sound DISABLED in the BIOS? (I'll check a bit deeper and reply later)

dpd,

HI, and thanks for the reply. I do have the on-board audio disabled. I have been looking everywhere for an answer and cant seem to find one that works.

I have another question for you since our systems are similar. Have you overclocked your cpu? If so, to what and is your PT system still stable? the reason I ask is I find if I run reason 3 in rewire and an instance of guitar-rig 2 my cpu is WAY TOO SLOW to get any work done. I end up rebooting more than laying down tracks. I have the PC tweaked for audio and disable symantec. I am thinking of upgrading to either a dual G5 or an AMD dual core processor unless I can find a way to get more juice out of the system I have. Sorry for the winded question, Im just looking to get more power out of my CPU without spending more money on an new one. I know its cheap but I wanna a digi 002 and some drum mics. HA, the never ending money pit that is audio recording.

thanks for the reply

nope - I don't overclock. If you want to give your LE system the absolute, most abusive, acid test of all time, go the the Digidesign User Conference Forums (duc.digidesign.com), go to the Windows / LE forum and look into the 'davec I' & 'davec II' performance tests. I'm still trying to get past Test II on my system (24 tracks with 5 plugins per track, each plugin, pan, and fader automated). I've tweaked my system according to the musicxp paper, etc.

I can easily run any session I have ever done - but these tests are designed to 'break' your system. Before you go spend $$$, learn more there, tweak a bit, and then see if you still have problems with YOUR sessions.

I do NOTHING on my DAW but ProTools - no internet, no anti-virus, etc.

Go to Start, then control panel, Sounds and Audio devices, then chose the Audio tab. At the top you will see the default device, simply chose your MBox, or digidesign hardware. Simple as that.

have you tried the old uninstall / re-install trick with the Wave/ASIO drivers? I know Mbox works under 6.4 with XP - that's what my son uses...
