I've just bought a Crown Soundgrabber II to use as a direct connect to a Sony DCR-TRV9 camcorder. The sound recorded is distorted as if the mic is too hot. Is this because of mismatch impedance (mic 1.6K, camera input 6.8K) or because the mic is simply producing too high a level for the camera to contend with? I cannot use manual sound level on the camera--it has to be auto gain.
Other than using a mixer between the mic and the camera does anyone have an idea how I can reduce the output of the mic?
Thanks in advance.

Try a 20 or 30db pad inline with the mic before the input. Don't know the specs on this mic and cam input, but that's where I'd start.
