hi there:

i'm new to all this. my background is, however, film. i intend to build my own home studio soon. i will, primarily, focus on sound designing and scoring commercials, films, etc... after doing some research, i have come up with the following stuff i liked:

software: nuendo and (this is where i need help!!) one of the following: digital performer, cubase vst/32 producer, or logic audio platinum.

hardware: motu 2048 mk2, motu didi timepiece a/v (usb interface)

synth: yamaha motif-6

i would like to know, firstable, whether this will work for what i need it for. smpte timecode capability and import/export omf, aiff is a must. i would really appreciate any input on this. specially in regards of the midi software, i'm a bit overwhelmed right now with the different choices. hardware wise, is this the best configuration (should i go with steinberg instead??) thank you!

I'm sure you've probably already made your purchase decisions, but I'd go with Digital Performer, a good Macintosh and Final Cut Pro. Ok, maybe AVID instead of Final Cut Pro. The 2408MKII is probably the most flexible piece of equipment I have in my studio. I've not had to use it for what it is yet, but I know if I need to collaborate with another studio that's DAT or ADAT based, I've got it covered. DP3 can even export to a ProTools project, which I've done with no problems.
I'm a bit biased with MOTU stuff cause I've been using it since '87.
