I am currently finishing off my basement (the carpet is being installed next week) and I am looking to set up a small PA system or sound system of some sort. Some background to help in your suggestions... I play mostly acoustic style praise and worship music. So I will be using a plugged in acoustic guitar and a mic for vocals on a regular basis. I also play bass, and I have a keyboard. My desire is to have enough channels that if I have people over and a jam session breaks out that the system could handle it, but realistically I will more than likely only have 4-5 people plugging in at a time.

I am also wondering if it is possible to use smaller stereo style speakers like the JBL contractor series along with a sub to get the sound I need. I am not looking to blast people out of my house with a several thousand watt amplifier and hanging arrays :) But I would like to be able to be heard over the acoustic drum set I have as well. And sound quality is important.

Lastly, my budget is tight. I would like to keep this under a grand. The lower I figure the more realistic it is that I can purchase the PA....

Any suggestions?

Sorry no one has bitten on this. Don't think me silly, but have you looked at Fender's Passport 250 Deluxe? I demo'd one just prior to selling to a client. I think it would fit the bill, except for the bass guitar, might need a separate bass head for that.

I've used the JBL Eon series (the model previous to the G2 series), with a Yamaha 01V, with terrific results. Those speakers just sound GREAT. For under $1k, you can probably find a used set of the JBLs for $600-700, and spend the rest on a decent mixer (Behringer Euro comes to mind).

I've also heard the Fender Passport, which sounds good. I'm not sure about using it with acoustic drums, because I never turned it up that much in the store. But the sound quality is there.
