How do you assign a dollar value to your hours of creative effort or your painstaking tracking and mixing? Any pro studio engineer can tell you horror stories of crashed sessions, lost tracks and scrambles to rebuild vital project files. That's why storage and backup methods and media need to be rock-solid reliable. It's also why Sweetwater, and countless professionals alike, have learned to trust Glyph storage solutions.

Three Reasons that Glyph Drive Systems Are Superior
Glyph understands the studio environment and employs innovative technologies in their GT Series FireWire storage solutions such as:

  » Quiet Metal
  » True FireWire Hot-Swappable Interface
  » Quality Components
Overnight Advance Replacement Policy
Glyph understands that at the heart of any successful project is adhering to deadlines. That's why they offer their Overnight Advance Replacement Policy with all GT 050 tabletop and GT Key removable hard drives (also applies to single SCSI fixed and removable hard drives with 5 year warranties). Any applicable Glyph hard drive that goes down in the heat of battle within a year of its purchase will be replaced OVERNIGHT by Glyph - who else would offer such service? Sort of makes you think that they must have THAT much faith in their drives in the first place, doesn't it?

1. Glyph Quiet Metal

Most of the noise in a hard drive system comes from two sources: the hard drive itself and the fans used to circulate air through the enclosure. Noise is vibration, and it is the vibration of the hard drives and fans that is so objectionable in an audio recording studio.

Stopping the Noise Where It's Made
Glyph studied the situation and determined how to stop noise at its source. First, silence the fans. Second, block the vibration of the hard drive from getting to the chassis, where it could make its way into the studio. The fans in Glyph's ultra-quiet enclosures are specially chosen for nearly-silent operation, and Glyph further reduces their noise output by over-sizing them and then running them slower than their ratings. This leaves only the hard drives as the main potential noise source. The clear place to reduce this was in the mounting hardware that holds the drives within the chassis. Glyph researched the problem and found the solution.

Quiet Metal Tri-Laminate

Glyph took advantage of advanced composite metals technology and incorporated a tri-laminate - two layers of metal skin, separated (and bonded) by a viscoelastic polymer core - into their systems to dampen vibration and control noise. The tri-laminate metal actually absorbs vibration before it can get to the unit chassis. Extensive research and testing demonstrated that careful application of Quiet Metal to Glyph products would dramatically cut the noise level produced by the hard drives.

Two layers of metal skin, separated (and bonded) by
a viscoelastic polymer core delivers a quieter studio experience.

Glyph uses Quiet Metal for the internal drive frames, making Glyph products the quietest high-performance storage systems available today. The combination of viscoelastic damping and secure fastenings, along with the use of the latest in quiet drive mechanisms and fans, virtually eliminates vibrational noise.

This translates into a storage solution that is significantly quieter than the rest of the gear in your studio - which means your recording is quieter, too.

2. Hot Swapping Convenience
Glyph's hot-swappable drive cartridges incorporate Glyph's ATA-to-FireWire bridging technology for fast, convenient swapping of hard drives.
Hot swapping allows for a hard drive to be removed while the computer is running and another drive inserted for immediate use. Hot swapping requires very stable removal and insertion of drives, otherwise data corruption can occur. Glyph's FireWire Hot-Swap system swaps drives at the FireWire level, adhering to IEEE-1394a standards, assuring data integrity. Hot swapping is cost effective and scalable - when you need more storage, just add more drives in trays for use with your existing enclosure.

3. When Only the Finest Hard Drives Will Do
Glyph offers Seagate hard drive mechanisms exclusively in their hard drive products.
Glyph understands the needs of the audio professional and has gone the extra mile to ensure that their storage solutions can take the constant use - and abuse - that busy engineers can dish out by exclusively using Seagate hard drive mechanisms. With a reputation for exceeding expectations in reliability, Seagate drives combined with Glyph technology and support gives you the upper edge in storage solutions you can count on.
