Avid: Pioneering the DAW Revolution
For many, if not most, engineers here at Sweetwater, Pro Tools was our entry into computer-based recording, either from the top (Pro Tools HD) or the bottom (Pro Tools LE), just as Avid/1 was the first and last NLE software our video pros embraced. Over the decades, Avid's products have grown more powerful, becoming paradoxically easier to use while becoming infinitely more complex. The same could be said for their extensive range of hardware, including premium audio interfaces and cutting-edge control surfaces.
Digital Storytelling Made Simple
From the time Bill Warner founded the company in 1987, Avid has been dedicated to helping storytellers of all types create their art. When Avid acquired Digidesign in 1995, they'd already broken into the burgeoning nonlinear video editing market. At that time, the music production world was on the verge of a digital, computer-based revolution. Avid was determined to be there when software DAWs reached the tipping point, and to say they succeeded would be an extreme understatement. By 1999, when Digidesign's Pro Tools claimed its first number-one single — Ricky Martin's "Livin' la Vida Loca" — Avid was on top of the professional recording market, and dominating the project-studio/home recording market was the logical next step.

Sweetwater has been proud to be part of this journey, having helped countless producers, engineers, and artists discover the power of Pro Tools, Avid Media Composer, Sibelius, and more. Whether it's a new iteration of their software, an upgraded line of audio interfaces, the next step in control surface development, or something altogether new, we can't wait to tell you about the latest Avid gear.
