More in Mac Sleep mode and alternatives
12/19/2000

In response to our recent tip about Macs and sleep mode (see TTOTD 12/12/00), the Sweetwater Service & Technical Support Department wishes to advise inSync readers that they recommend never using Sleep Mode. It is known to conflict with many audio hardware drivers and audio software extensions. They also recommend setting the Energy Saver extension to "NEVER," and to stay away from screen savers. They report that in certain Mac systems (with certain hardware and/or software components) these can cause freezes or the dreaded Type 2 or Type 3 errors. According to them, the problems aren't common, "But why risk it?" Especially when you're paying session musicians to perform that all important part, while clients are waiting, and your paycheck is relying on meeting a deadline... yadda yadda.... If you want to save your monitor (and energy) without putting your Mac to sleep you can just turn the monitor off. According to our service gurus this, or just shutting the computer down, is the most reliable way to operate your DAW system.
