Alesis' 20-bit Light Pipe is now 24-bit
10/03/2000

We've covered ADAT Light Pipe digital compatibility issues in our Tech Tips before, but like most things in technology the facts are a moving target. Some time ago we reported that any device using Alesis' chipset in their Light Pipe digital I/O would only support bit depth of up to 20-bits. At the time this was true. Since then Alesis has updated their ASIC to support a full 24-bits of digital audio. Most products currently being served with Light Pipe can indeed handle 24-bit audio just fine.
