Verb Shaping Trick

Reverb, whether subtle or extreme, natural room ambience or artificial space, is an important part of many mixes. If you're looking for a way to quickly shape the reverb you're using, add some EQ!

First, set up the reverb type and length that you want. Then, either patch in a hardware EQ or insert a plug-in equalizer on the reverb return channel(s), after the reverb. Now you can use the equalizer to quickly shape the tone of the reverb, remove annoying, ringing frequencies, or reduce the amount of low or high-end energy in the ambience to keep the mix clean and open.
