What's in the Fender "Mystery Bag"?
03/20/2008

Q: I just got a Fender Blues Deluxe. Affixed to the floor inside the amp is an object that appears to be a long black vinyl bag. I'm assuming that has my footswitch, etc. in it, but it doesn't come out of the amp. It looks like it's screwed down, and there's nothing in the manual about tearing my amp apart to get to it. Thought I'd ask before I start unscrewing things.

A: That's actually your reverb tank and you really shouldn't be tampering with it. If you did unscrew the unit and lifted it up, you'd see wires coming out that are the signal in and the signal out. Inside the vinyl bag there's a metal Accusonics reverb, with springs on the underside that produce the reverberation effect. (That's why this is called a spring reverb.) While you probably couldn't do much damage by unscrewing the bag, you might accidentally pull out the wires that carry the signal in and out of the reverb tank. The accessories are normally packaged separately and placed inside the amp (the Blues Deluxe has an open back, like most Fender guitar amps). If you did not find the accessories, you can contact our Customer Support Department; they'll take care of you.
