Guitar Control Knob Removal
03/16/2009

Q: The volume and tone control knobs on my guitar are really tight. How do I get them off without breaking or scratching anything?

A: There are specialized tools for this task, but the easiest solution we've found is to wrap a cloth tightly around the bottom of the knob, then use the cloth for extra leverage. Avoid using a screwdriver or other implement to pry the knobs off, as you'll probably damage the guitar top. Likewise, grabbing the knob with a pliers will probably mar the knob or guitar top and may cause you to break the potentiometer.
