Tube Substitution

If you're interested in changing the gain structure of your guitar amp, consider experimenting with different preamp tubes. Most guitar amps use 12AX7 preamp tubes. However, 12AT7 and 12AU7 tubes — which have significantly lower gain — can usually be directly substituted. Just unplug the old tube and plug in the new one.
