Enhancing your guitar tone with a compressor

Q: Can you suggest a setting I can use on my compressor that will make my guitar sound better?

A: Some compressors actually have presets specifically set up for acoustic and electric guitars, but if yours doesn't, we'd suggest you start with light compression, with a ratio of 2:1 or at most 4:1. You'll want a fairly fast attack so you can hear the pick hit the strings, and then a longer release setting to avoid the breathing effect.
