Arpeggio
- From Italian, meaning 'in the manner of a harp'. A "broken" chord performed with the notes 'spread out', one after the other rather than simultaneously, usually starting from the bottom. Arpeggios are common in both piano and harp music. In MIDI sequencing programs and synthesizers, the ability to arpeggiate notes is built in with a device called an arpeggiator.
