Wi-Fi: This is short for wireless fidelity technology, which was introduced and marketed to both businesses and the public by the Wi-Fi Alliance, which promotes standards that are meant to improve the compatibility of local area wireless network products, all of which are based on the IEEE 803.11 standard. There are a number of common uses for this technology, which include Internet and VolP phone access, video games, and network connectivity for such consumer electronics as flat screen TVs, digital cameras, and DVD players. All products tested and eventually approved as "Wi-Fi Certified" by the Alliance will be interoperable with each other, regardless of the manufacturer. Wi-Fi has many things going for it: Wireless networks are inexpensive and easy to set up. There's a good chance that you may be using a wireless router right now in your home or business to allow multiple devices to connect to the Internet.
