Variac
- Basically a variac is a variable transformer. They allow the user to vary the output voltage with some type of control. This is usually a knob attached to a wiper that makes contact with the transformer coil allowing the electricity to be "tapped" at any point along the winding for a specific voltage output. Variacs are useful when specific and non-standard voltages may be required on a temporary basis.
