Soft Sampler: Short for Software Sampler. Like a hardware sampler, a soft sampler is a software application that can record, alter and playback digital audio data to be distributed across a keyboard and played back at various pitches. Within the soft sampler is a means to assign the sound to a MIDI note or velocity range to be triggered by a MIDI controller.
