Phosphor Bronze
- This refers to an alloy of copper with 3.5% to 10% of tin and a significant phosphorus content of up to 1%, which is added as a deoxidizing agent during the melting process. Such alloys are well known for their strength and toughness, which is why phosphor bronze is used whenever high resistance to fatigue, wear and chemical corrosion is required. This makes it an excellent material for use in acoustic instrument strings for guitars and mandolins.
