Macassar Ebony
- This is wood from the tree Diospyros discolor, also known as Calamander Wood, Golden ebony, and Marblewood. It is difficult to work with, though the finished product can be spectacular. Thus, this is a very expensive timber that is only rarely seen. The tree grows in isolated locations, such as the Philippines, the Celebes Islands of Indonesia, and the East Indies. It grows in well-drained, rocky soil near water, but never in low, swampy areas. It is considered one of the most expensive timbers on the commercial market.
